ES boys take ’Tonka tourney again

Excelsior Springs found itself in a familiar spot in the Winnetonka Tournament: as tournament champions.With a 9-1 thumping of Winnetonka Sept. 4 and a 2-1 victory over Fort Osage of Independence Sept. 6, the Tigers won the varsity boys soccer tournament for the second time in the three seasons.Kolin Kincaid led the way against Winnetonka with four goals, followed by Jake Zapata with three. The seniors were among four Tigers with at least one goal.Zapata started the scoring, finishing an assist from Kincaid. Kincaid made it 2-0 by finishing senior Grayson Grove’s assist pass.Tyler Wartner, a first-year high schooler, then finished a pass from Kincaid. Kincaid scored an unassisted goal before assisting Gauge Facciuto on Facciuto’s first high school goal.Facciuto returned the favor, assisting Kincaid for Excelsior Springs’ sixth goal.
