ES football campaign ends with loss to VH
A late scoring drive helped end Excelsior Springs’ streak of victories over Van Horn in varsity football – and Excelsior Springs’ season.Excelsior Springs and Van Horn were knotted at 24 about midway through the fourth quarter when the schools met Nov. 1 in Independence in Class 4 District 8 Tournament play. Van Horn took the lead on a 56-yard TD pass, added an extra-point kick and went on to edge the Tigers 31-24.It was the third postseason meeting between Excelsior Springs and Van Horn, Missouri State High School Activities Association records state. Excelsior Springs won the first two.The loss ended the Tigers’ season at 2-8 and capped Jake Danneman’s first season as their coach.Van Horn’s game-winning scores were part of a seesaw fight.
