ES girls end title drought
A long drought for Excelsior Springs in varsity girls basketball is over.By holding off Richmond 48-45 March 8 at Excelsior Springs, the Tigers won the Class 4 District 15 title – the program’s first district crown since 2007. In ending the championship drought, the Tigers improved to 10-15 and advanced to face Benton of St. Joseph Tuesday in Class 4 sectional play at Excelsior Springs, with the winner to play in the state quarterfinals Saturday.With 34.2 seconds left and Richmond leading 45-43, Bella Loeffert drained a three-point shot that proved to be the game-winner. Loeffert then sank an insurance free throw with 18.7 seconds left.
