ES girls finish latest homestand 2-1
Excelsior Springs varsity girls basketball coach JD Biermann and his Tigers finished their latest homestand as winners.
After opening the homestand Feb. 3 with a 69-23 loss to Smithville, the Excelsior Springs girls downed Winnetonka 52-44 Feb. 5 and edged Raytown South Monday. The stretch put the Tigers at 7-10 overall entering a Greater Kansas City Suburban Conference-Blue Division meeting with Grandview, set for Friday at Grandview.
Smithville shot 40% from the field in downing Excelsior Springs. The Warriors’ shooting included nine three-pointers.
Turnovers hurt Excelsior Springs. The Tigers committed 32 turnovers, with the Warriors scoring 31 points off those turnovers.
The Warriors quickly took control of the Blue Division meeting, leading 27-4 after one quarter. Smithville went on to lead 42-14 at halftime. A 23-9 third quarter helped the Warriors pull away.
