ES girls split 2 games
EXCELSIOR SPRINGS – Due to quarantines, the Excelsior Springs girls basketball team has hit a lull.
From Jan. 20 to Feb. 4, they played only two games. They lost the Jan. 20 non-conference road meeting with St. Joseph Lafayette, 46-27. They won the Feb. 4 Missouri River Valley Conference West Division game with visiting Center, 37-33.
St. Joseph Lafayette came out quickly and led 21-11 after one quarter. Both teams struggled to score the second quarter, producing four points each.
The Irish edged the Tigers 10-7 the third quarter. They then outscored the Tigers 11-5 in the final quarter.
Junior Mallory Millsap led Excelsior Springs with 14 points, and collected three rebounds and three steals.
The Tigers used a 15-point second quarter to beat Center. Leading 19-10 at halftime, it appeared they would pull away, but a slow second half prevented that. They withstood a 23-point second half by the Yellowjackets to hold on for the four-point win.
