Excelsior Springs boys take third in golf opener
BLUE SPRINGS – The Excelsior Springs varsity boys golf team negotiated rolling hills, wooded areas, sand traps and water hazards well enough to take third at the Oak Grove Invitational.
“I am pleased with the way the boys played today,” coach David Stalder said. “The conditions on the day were tough and they dealt with them in a professional manner and played through them.”
Senior Ethan Edwards led the Tigers in their season-opening tournament, held March 25 at Adams Pointe Golf Club in Blue Springs, by shooting an 86 for the 18-hole, par-72 round. Edwards finished fifth individually.
“The course was wet and tough, but it was good to be able to get out and practice playing in tough conditions like that,” Edwards said.
Sophomore Jacob Schmidt finished 11th, shooting a 96. Junior Ryan Gluhm shot a 97.
