It’s unfortunate that Excelsior Springs and Richmond don’t play each other in varsity 11-man football anymore. I developed that opinion Monday after napping – or rather, attempting to nap and mostly failing. For some reason, as I was trying to spur myself to arise late that afternoon from my couch, Roosevelt Field popped into my head. Roosevelt Field, as older readers are aware, is where Excelsior Springs played its high school games before Tiger Stadium was built at the high school. One of my boyhood memories is of going with some friends of the family to see Richmond play Excelsior Springs there. I think Excelsior Springs won, but I don’t remember the score.
