The inside game helped Excelsior Springs get its first two wins this season in varsity girls basketball.

By scoring in the paint, the Tigers edged Lexington 4542 Dec. 3 and then crushed Kansas City East 71-8 Dec. 5. Both ballgames were at Excelsior Springs.

Post players Lizzy Hormell and Kinley Rogers led the Excelsior Springs girls past Lexington. Rogers, a junior, led the way with 20 points. She also grabbed 14 rebounds for a double-double.

Hormell, a senior, contributed 17 points. Her stat line also included nine rebounds.

Other contributors included juniors Bella Loeffert and Kayden Rogers. Loeffert, a guard, had 12 rebounds and five points. Kayden Rogers dished out five assists and scored two points.

Excelsior Springs threatened to pull away from Lexington during the first half, leading 28-14 at halftime. The Minutewomen, however, knotted it at 33 by outscoring the Tigers 19-5 the third quarter.

Excelsior Springs edged Lexington 12-9 the final quarter to secure the victory.
