EXCELSIOR SPRINGS – The Tigers have spent the past few months getting used to having a new head varsity volleyball coach. Kathryn Beile, who succeeds retired coach Terri Irons, comes to Excelsior Springs after a stint as an assistant coach at Class 4 powerhouse Park Hill South.

Royals seek to escape American League Central Division cellar

KANSAS CITY – At just over the onethird mark of the coronavirus-shortened Major League Baseball season, the Kansas City Royals’ fortunes are like those of their past few seasons. At press time, the Royals were 10-15 and in last place in the American League Central Division following an interleague doubleheader with Cincinnati Wednesday at Kauffman Stadium.

EXCELSIOR SPRINGS – School districts are getting ready to start the fall semester, which means athletics are ramping up for action, too. The Excelsior Springs School District is no different, as the school’s sports programs began practices Monday.

Tiger Bowl provides tournaments, scholarships

EXCELSIOR SPRINGS – Life has been rolling along at Tiger Bowl over the last three weekends, as owners Jerry and Teresa Farrell have been busy hosting various tournaments. On July 10, Gannon Davis picked up a youth six-game sweeper tournament championship. Davis received an $80 scholarship for rolling a 1,061 series on the day and a 176.8 average. Runnerup Andrew DeOrnellis finished with a 1,044 series, 174 average, and received a $56 scholarship.

Williams in Adams’ corner as safety negotiates with NYJ

FLORHAM PARK, New Jersey – A New York Jets safety who is haggling with the team over his contract has the support of Excelsior Springs native Gregg Williams. Multiple media outlets have reported that Jamal Adams seeks to leave New York, rather than continue under the terms of his contact, set to expire next year.

NBA gears up for July to resume season

With much of the country starting to reopen from the coronavirus pandemic, professional sports leagues are making their plans to return.

One league that will return soon is the NBA. Recently, players and NBA owners reached an agreement to continue the 2019-20 season. Play stopped play in March with about a month left in the regular season.

Starting July 31, games will be played at Disney’s ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex in Orlando. Teams are to be quarantined and games are to be played without fans, multiple media outlets reported.
