Bedford keeps skills sharp during summer

Kaelan Bedford isn’t resting after helping Excelsior Springs secure a historic third-place finish in the Class 4 state baseball tournament. Bedford, who finished his first year of high school this spring, provided the bases-loaded, walk-off single to right field in the bottom of the seventh inning that gave the Tigers a 6-5 win over Fulton in the Class 4 third-place game June 1 at Sky Bacon Stadium in Ozark.

Annual Wine Festival sips into summer

The 17th Annual Wine Festival was deemed an “absolute success” by Carrie Karr, a member of the festival staff. After a walk down Lover’s Lane in East Valley Park, guests were able to sample 85 various wines from 20 Missouri wineries while listening to live music performed by the Brody Busters Band.

Events planned in celebration of Parks, Recreation Month

The Excelsior Springs Parks and Recreation and Community Center will host events for youth and families in July to celebrate Parks and Recreation Month. Excelsior Springs Parks and Recreation and Community Center’s Youth and Family Coordinator Kyria Hood explained that in 1985 Parks and Recreation Month was nationally recognized through the National Recreation and Parks Association.

Summer events are kicking off throughout Excelsior Springs and there is an option for safe, reliable transportation offered by the city for those in need. Excelsior Springs Transportation operates a curb-to-curb public transportation system for residents.

Lumsden enters not guilty plea

An Excelsior Springs resident entered a plea of not guilty to multiple charges, including armed criminal action, during a criminal setting hearing earlier this week. Wyatt Dean Lumsden, 19, of Excelsior Springs, previously posted 10 percent of a $25,000 bond, on two felony charges including: unlawful use of a weapon and armed criminal action.

The Excelsior Springs Police Department reported the following arrests handled recently by the department. WEDNESDAY, MAY 31 At 1:47 a.m., Joshua Duncan Sr., 45, was arrested for domestic assault.
