Do you eat romaine lettuce at home? Most of us cut the bottom core off when we’re preparing a salad, but did you know that core can actually regenerate into a whole new head of lettuce? Simply soak it in water, and in a few days, you’ll see new leaves start to grow. Plant it outside in the garden or in a pot, and in just a few weeks, you’ll have a free harvest of new romaine lettuce to collect. Tutorials and tips can be found online.

Governor Mike Parsons recently signed Senate Bill 24 into law, recognizing Public Safety Telecommunications and Missouri State Highway Patrol Communications Operators as first responders as well as allowing them access to mental health funding.

Eden Village panel answers community questions

A discussion was held recently between Excelsior Springs citizens and representatives of Eden Village , a nonprofit organization aiming to end homelessness within the community. Various factors relating to the local homeless population and how Eden Village can meet that need were explained by the group’s panel, which included Nate Schlueter, chief visionary officer; Alfredo Palacol, founding executive director; Kelly Anderson, board president and Jenifer Chapel, caseworker.

Haslett bond may increase

Currently facing nine felony charges, Timothy M. Haslett Jr. may have his bond increased after the body found in Saline County was identified as being that of a potential witness in the case against him, according to the Clay County Prosecutors Office (CCPO).

ESHS joins other schools in observing ‘dead week’

Excelsior Springs student athletes and coaches are getting a breather of sorts this week. This week is a “dead week” for programs at Excelsior Springs and other schools that participate in activities sanctioned by the Missouri State High School Activities Association (MSHSAA) – the second of two summertime dead periods required by MSHSAA.
