Let me confess

Body
Confessions are always fun to share, whether they are big or small. You may confess your feelings to a friend and it may end well or maybe not so much. You may confess to your mom that her pork chops were gross, in your opinion. Whatever the confession is, it can be difficult to tell. I have a confession to tell you all, obviously. In fact, I have multiple confessions so listen up or put reading glasses on.

Learning from the young

Body
Every day, children are all around us. They explore the world around them and share their encounters through imagination, creativity and ingenuity. Oftentimes, children are experiencing the world for the first time; much of the time, these children are accompanied by an adult trying to teach them the ways of the world through their own lens.

Traditional family luck

Body
My grandpa reads the Richmond News and he doesn’t live in Ray County or Richmond. He lives in Lexington and he enjoys reading the neighboring county news, I assume and because I write some of it – duh.

DO JUST ONE THING

Body
The Marine Stewardship Council wants to remind all of us that it’s important to reduce our digital carbon footprint as well. As we’re going more and more digital, “cooling server farms, digital devices and producing new technology all require energy inputs and have a carbon output.” Right now, digital carbon emissions make up to 3.7% of all global emissions. To reduce your footprint, the organization suggests regularly emptying your inbox, reducing cloud usage (delete all those unnecessary pics!) and opting for non-HD streaming whenever you can.

Making better choices

Body
In everyday life, people are faced with moments to make a choice. Sometimes those choices can be as simple as what to drink, eat or decide where to go for a good cup of coffee.

Lessons from small-town journalism

Body
After spending quite a bit of time getting to know Ray County residents there are a few things I have learned about Richmond and surrounding towns as a journalist. A lot of people care deeply about where they live, where their children go to school and what is happening with small businesses.

DO JUST ONE THING

Body
When packing a lunch to take to the office or for your kid to take to school, try this hack to keep your food chilled: Freeze a container of yogurt! You’ll have a yogurt “ice pack” to help keep the rest of your food cold, and your yogurt will stay cold until lunchtime. It’s the right type of ingredient to freeze; a juice container or thermos of water may work the same way, but it’s slow to thaw out. Dairy items (like yogurt) freeze hard but thaw quickly. So by the time you’re ready to eat, it’ll be the perfect creamy consistency.
