Dantin McBee has a streak going at the Ray County Fair. McBee, who’ll start high school this fall at Excelsior Springs, received the Overall Best in Show Award for shooting sports July 13 at the fair.

KC sends four to MLB All-Star Game

Salvador Perez is headed back to the Major League Baseball All-Star Game.

The veteran catcher will represent the Kansas City Royals in the annual ballgame, slated for July 16 at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas. It’ll be his ninth All-Star Game appearance.

Cyclones take second in back-to-back tourneys

An Excelsior Springs-based summer softball team brought home the silver twice recently. The Cyclones, a group of mostly 16-year-olds whose core has played together since age 8, placed second at the 18A USSSA State Fastpitch Tournament, held June 21-23; and then at the Dust & Diamonds Tournament, a three-day tournament that wrapped Sunday.

Crushers pile up runs en route to runner-up tournament finish

An Excelsior Springs summer league baseball team piled up the runs in taking second in its division at the USSSA A/AA State Championship Tournament. Averaging nearly nine runs per game, the 10-and-under Crushers went 4-2 during the June 21-23 tournament, held at the Capitol Federal Sports Complex in Liberty.

Slumping Royals look to trim Guardians’ division lead

Kansas City has an opportunity to gain ground on Cleveland in the American League Central Division race as the week concludes.

The Royals began a four-game series with Cleveland Thursday night at Kauffman Stadium. The divisional series will conclude Sunday.
