In 2014, Excelsior Springs played a 13-inning varsity baseball game. In 2023, almost nine years to the day of that 11-10 extra-inning home victory over Pleasant Hill, the Tigers played a varsity baseball game that lasted almost as long.

Three games, three wins. Such was Excelsior Springs’ schedule last week in varsity girls soccer.

On April 18, the cliche that records are made to be broken was validated once again. That day, during the Warrior Relays in Smithville, Kinsley Rogers set the Excelsior Springs High School record in the girls javelin.

The Tigers have been difficult to beat in varsity boys tennis since hosting their tournament. Following the April 12 competition, Excelsior Springs had won four of five duals entering Wednesday’s home meeting with Fort Osage.

Jacob Schmidt and his Excelsior Springs varsity boys golf teammates fought through the elements when they played in an April 13 triangular hosted by Winnetonka at Hodge Park Golf Club in Kansas City. Schmidt managed the weather well enough to place second overall with a nine-hole round of 41.

Excelsior Springs made a clean sweep of the Highway 92 Meet. The Tigers won the boys portion of the track and field competition, held April 13 at Tiger Stadium, with 266.5 points – 124.5 points ahead of runner-up Lathrop.

Excelsior Springs had little time to relax between competitions last week in varsity boys tennis. The Tigers crammed two duals and their own tournament into three days, splitting the duals, and claiming a firstplace medal and two third-place medals at the tournament.

On March 28, Excelsior Springs put the finishing touch on its high school girls wrestling season. That night, the Tigers held their endof- season banquet in the high school commons area.

Excelsior Springs has been almost unbeatable lately in varsity girls soccer. Through Monday’s home win over Savannah, the Tigers had won five of their last six and were 6-5 overall entering Wednesday’s road meeting with Raytown South in Greater Kansas City Suburban Conference-Blue Division action.

Mason Danner “deserved a better fate” when Excelsior Springs faced Oak Park April 15 as part of a rain-shortened triangular at Tiger Stadium, according to Tigers coach Aaron Holst. Danner was the starting pitcher in Excelsior Springs’ 15-3 loss to the Northmen.
