Body On April 5, Excelsior Springs’ track and field athletes took advantage of some favorable weather. That day, the Tigers competed at the Kearney Classic Invitational.

Body DUSTIN DANNER Sports Reporter Excelsior Springs varsity girls basketball coach JD Biermann and his Tigers have formally capped their season. They did so April 1 with a team banquet, held in the high school commons area.

Body Excelsior Springs ran into a seasoned opponent in varsity boys tennis on April 4, when the Tigers hosted perennial Class 1 power Lafayette County of Higginsville. It was the Huskers’ sixth dual this season.

Body Lilly Smith contended for a state title last week. Competing for the Excelsior Springs Youth Wrestling Club, Smith placed second in the 14-and-under 195+-pound weight class at the Missouri USA Wrestling state folkstyle tournament, held March 30 in Springfield.

Body When Excelsior Springs closing pitcher Klayton Glaspy had to finish his save opportunity against Winnetonka in the Excelsior Springs Tournament, he kept his cool. Glaspy and his fellow Tigers were leading 3-1 in the top of the seventh inning.

Body The wrestling accolades continue to grow for Excelsior Springs alum Damon Ashworth. The University of Central Missouri redshirt sophomore recently completed an All-American season with a fifthplace finish in the 184-pound division at NCAA Division II national competition.
