The Clay County Sheriff’s Office is pursuing national accreditation and seeks public input as part of that process. The Sheriff’s Office is working to be only the third sheriff’s office in Missouri to attain accreditation from the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA).

Excelsior Springs School District (ESSD) #40 and Superintendent of Schools Dr.Travis Hux, have announced Hux will retire from the school district effective June 30, 2023. Hux began his tenure as superintendent of schools in the 2021-22 school year.

Excelsior Springs Police Chief Gregory Dull believes increasing the number of females in law enforcement is important. However, he does not plan to sign the 30x30 pledge recently approved by Ray County Sheriff Will Akin.

Postal employees continue to experience safety issues during mail delivery in the Wood Heights area, according Excelsior Springs Post Office City letter carrier Kyle Slusher, who addressed the problem with a letter sent to homes along the delivery route.

Candidates for the Excelsior Springs School District (ESSD) board have shared their view on hot topics in the race for open seats. Voters will choose three of the five candidates — Jill Evert, incumbent Kenny Manley, incumbent Darren McKown and Andrew Starkebaum — in the April 4 election.

During this month’s meeting of the Excelsior Springs City Council, the group voted to amend zoning regulations. Specifically, Chapter 400: Zoning Regulations was amended in order to establish District CH Cottage Housing Residential District.
