Like a taciturn cowboy in a Hollywood Western movie, longtime editor and reporter Jack “Miles” Ventimiglia kept his remarks brief as he rode off into the sunset, metaphorically speaking, by retiring.

EXCELSIOR SPRINGS – Wine lovers got to sample more than 85 wines offered by 20 of Missouri’s wineries, and beer lovers got to taste some beers from craft breweries, June 11 during the 16th Annual Wine Fest along Lover’s Lane.

EXCELSIOR SPRINGS – An old power plant is about to disappear from a historic site. On June 6, the City Council approved a $24,400 bid by Dehn Demolition of Independence to level the plant, located in the 100 block of Dunbar sitting southwest of the Wyman building.

EXCELSIOR SPRINGS – Rainbow Splash Park could expand in 2023, Parks and Recreation and Community Center Director Nate Williams told city leaders June 6 at the Hall of Waters. Williams mentioned that possibility shortly before the City Council approved a 12-month lease agreement with the First United Methodist Church for the city to handle upkeep on a parcel of property between the church and park.

EXCELSIOR SPRINGS – The Excelsior Springs Police Department is getting new video cameras to monitor activity in its jail cells. On June 6 at the Hall of Waters, the City Council approved Chief Greg Dull’s request to have cameras installed in six adult cells and the cell for juveniles.
