Mitchell Dickey

April 10, 1961-Aug. 4, 2026 Mitchell Troy Dickey passed away Aug. 4, 2026. He was 65. Mitchell was preceded in death by his son, Aaron Scott Dickey; mother, Francis Lorena Trujillo; father, Roger Allen Dickey; and grandparents, Lenore Trujillo and Francis Trujillo. He is survived by his sons, Justin Troy Dickey and Austin Richard Dickey; grandson, Hudson; brother, Durke Gardner Dickey; and nephews, Max Robert Dickey and Cole Mitchell Dickey.

Mitchell graduated in 1979 from Excelsior Springs High School. After graduation, he moved to New Mexico, where he worked in construction and later as a floor installer.

New Mexico wasn’t just where he worked; it was where he formed friendships that stayed close to his heart for the rest of his life. He talked about that time and those people often.

He enjoyed bass fishing, hunting for arrowheads and cheering on the Kansas City Chiefs.

Wabash BBQ became the center of Mitchell’s world. He poured his heart into the restaurant and loved the people who came through its doors. To him, Wabash was home, a community and a place filled with some of his happiest memories. He was proud to support Special Olympics through Wabash and believed in bringing people together.

Mitchell will be remembered for his kind heart, genuine love of people and unmistakable laugh – the kind you recognized from across a room, shoulders bouncing as he laughed with family and friends.

That joy, that laughter – that’s how so many will remember him.

A celebration of life open house will be held 2-6 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 16, at the Elks Lodge in Excelsior Springs.
