Farewell tour enters home stretch for senior netters
Excelsior Springs will soon lose a nucleus of seniors from its girls tennis program.
Those seniors – Ananya Carrel, Olivia Deere, Hailey McDade, Laney Smith and Sophia Wilson – will finish regularseason play next week. After that, their remaining time in the program will hinge on how Excelsior Springs fares in the postseason.
The program will miss the quintet’s court experience, Excelsior Springs coach Richie Marsh acknowledged. Carrel, Deere, McDade and Smith have been with the program for four years, Marsh said Sept. 23. Wilson is a three-year member of the program.
The seniors’ leadership will be missed, too, according to Marsh.
“They’ve really put a nice foundation in for the underclassmen,” he said.
Carrel, for one, will miss playing tennis at Excelsior Springs. Specifically, she’ll miss riding the bus home from road trips, she said.
“They’re very energetic,” Carrel said Sept. 24.
