The three Missouri State Senate District 21 candidates — Democrat Jim Bates and Republicans Doug Richey and Kurtis Gregory — attended The Richmond News’ political forum. The candidates were asked screened questions submitted by the public and were given two minutes each to provide their answers.

Dantin McBee has a streak going at the Ray County Fair. McBee, who’ll start high school this fall at Excelsior Springs, received the Overall Best in Show Award for shooting sports July 13 at the fair.

When Excelsior Springs begins varsity softball season in August, the Tigers will likely turn to Keira Romazon to pitch. Romazon, who’ll be a junior this fall, has pitched for Excelsior Springs the past two seasons.

A group of area 13-year-olds dominated their NKCA Baseball League competition this spring and summer. Called the Ice Crushers and coached by Richie Marsh, Andy Cramer, Greg Schmidt and JP Nielsen, the youngsters recently won the league title for their age level, cruising to 9-2 and 15-3 wins in tournament play.

The Excelsior Springs Fire Department (ESFD) is not only a department but a community pillar. Known for its strong sense of camaraderie and teamwork, every member is valued equally within this tightly knit unit.
