On Oct. 25, Excelsior Springs officially concluded its girls tennis season with a banquet at the high school.

The Excelsior Springs Comm The Excelsior Springs Parks and Recreation Board recently announced that grading plans for the new Milwaukee Street Park will be presented to the city for approval this fall.

The Westside Committee announced the Community Improvement District (CID) has begun collecting its new tax at participating locations. The new one-cent sales tax is planned to go toward improvements in the westside area of the city, and Brian Rice, Chamber of Commerce president, explained that he will track the data once he has access to the Missouri Department of Revenue’s online database for him to see what business are collecting the tax and the amount of funds being collected monthly.

A public hearing was held by the Excelsior Springs Planning and Zoning Commission to discuss the possibility of amending ordinance 400.230 regarding special use permit regulations for shortterm rentals.

Vandalism in Excelsior Springs has been occurring at local parks, leading the Parks and Recreation Department to spend time and money to correct the issue. Chad Clevenger, certified playground safety inspector, explained the most common type of vandalism is graffiti, and said those partaking in the destruction are drawing on everything.

In the wake of breast cancer awareness month, Melinda Mehaffy, economic development director, shares her story and explains early detection can save lives. Mehaffy said she had begun to receive annual mammograms at 37 years old and became angry at her doctor when she realized she had to pay $280 out of pocket for the exam.
