Tigers warm up, hopeful for fall sports season

Body
The Excelsior Springs High School activities department jumped back into the swing of things this past Monday with the beginning of summer conditioning. Tiger student-athletes will be taking to the fields three days a week doing various strength and conditioning workouts to prepare them for the upcoming sports seasons. These workouts did not go without precautions caused by the COVID-19 virus. Upon arriving at the facilities student-athletes had to be screened for a temperature check by athletic trainer Brett Morton and provide proper permission documentation from their parents. Once they were cleared they were assigned a color-coded mark proving they were screened and then were sent with their sport-specific groups to prepare for their workouts. The Tiger football team opened things up with check-in at 7:15 and workouts starting from 7:30 to 8:45. Cross country came in to workout from 8:00- 9:00 in front of the with softball, soccer, and girls basketball checking in for screening at 8:00 at the Miracle Field. The Tiger tennis team had their screenings at the tennis courts at 8:30 and all other sports and activities checked in at 9:00 at Tiger Stadium. Social distancing has been a major priority of the district during these workouts, using guidelines set by the Clay County Health Department. “We are having our athletes working on various bodyweight and cardiorespiratory activities where they will still be able to promote social distancing,” head softball coach Megan Rawie said. “Things have worked out really well so far this week and it has been nice to have smaller groups so we can give more individualized attention to our athletes.”
