ES City Council approves new purchases

The Excelsior Springs City Council recently approved the purchase of new bunker gear and tasers for the city’s first responders to aid in their services of keeping the city safe. Fire Chief Joe Maddick presented the council with the approval of purchase consideration for 18 sets of new bunker gear.

Barbeque enthusiasts came to witness the 23rd annual Barbeque Fly-In on the River Festival in Excelsior Springs. Over 50 teams participated in the event, endorsed by the Kansas City Barbeque Society (KCBS) and hosted by the Downtown Excelsior Partnership group (DEP).

National Farmers Market Week declared

Around the nation small farms celebrated National Farmers Market Week in honor of the growth and impact of farmers markets and the role they have on America’s food supply.

Excelsior Springs Chamber of Commerce’s Farmers Market Coalition recently celebrated the designation with guest speaker Mayor Mark Spohn.

Spohn declared the national holiday is to be observed in Excelsior Springs Aug. 6-12 in order to celebrate farmers and what they provide for people in the area, including locally and regionally produced foods and agricultural products.

The 23rd Annual BBQ & Fly-In on the River, scheduled for Friday, Aug. 18, from 6 a.m. to Aug. 19, at 5 p.m., requires the closure of several streets and parking lots that will prohibit vehicle traffic.
