Memorial Day event occurs inside, mostly

EXCELSIOR SPRINGS – Those who remembered fallen service members Monday in Excelsior Springs had to adapt to the weather. Originally, the annual Memorial Day ceremony was expected to take place outdoors at the six veterans monuments on the Clay Ray Veterans Association grounds.
THE FIRST commemorative wreath is placed in front of the stage for Memorial Day in Excelsior Springs. Other wreaths are placed to honor fallen members of the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, Coast Guard and Merchant Marine. Some asinine positions taken by most of the Republican-dominated Missouri General Assembly got resolved this year, when lawmakers agreed to collect online sales tax, raise the gas tax and approve a statewide prescription drug monitoring program.

Teresa Re’Nay Howard-Sawyer, 68, of Lawson, MO passed away peacefully at her home on May 26, 2021.

She was born Jan. 4, 1953 in Kansas City, MO to Carl G. and Betty L. Ballou. She graduated from Northeast High School, Class of 1971 and later studied at the University of Central Missouri. 
She is preceded in death by her father Carl G. Ballou and granddaughter Haley L. McDonald.
