The Excelsior Springs Police Department reported the following arrests handled recently by the department. Saturday, October 25 At 2:33 a.m., Kadence Barlow, 18, was arrested for conspiracy.

SAFE coalition learns about drug courts utilized in Clay

Zachary Thompson The Excelsior Springs Substance Abuse-Free Environment (SAFE) coalition welcomed Clay County Prosecuting Attorney and Regina Funk, treatment court manager, to discuss the use of treatment courts for those who struggle with addiction and mental health. Drug treatment courts, according to Thompson, consist of three different programs, including drug, mental health and veterans court, aimed at holding an offender accountable while maintaining justice for the victim, as well as determining specific deterrence with the person who committed the crime.

The Silver Senior Prom Committee has announced they will host a spring dance for citizens 55 and older in partnership with the Excelsior Springs High School’s Student Council scheduled for the spring of 2024.

RAISE grant fund matching increases

The Excelsior Springs City Council agreed to match higher funds in order to receive the Rebuilding American Infrastructure with Sustainability and Equity grant (RAISE) awarded to the city in 2022. The RAISE grant allotted for Excelsior Springs is the largest awarded in the state.

July 19, 1939 ~ Oct. 29, 2023 Loren David Jones passed peacefully in his sleep early Sunday morning, Oct. 29, 2023, at age 84. He is survived by his wife, Ann; two daughters, Shari McCauley (Kevin) and Tina Hastings (Ron); and grandchildren, Gavin, Jillian and Seth Hastings, Jackson, Stanton and Ashley McCauley.
