Dear Editor, On May 1, a small group of 10 to 15 Cameron Road Neighborhood Association members attended a town board meeting in Mosby at their town hall. David Rhodus, along with Ken Ideker and their lawyers, attempted to get the City of Mosby to accept their petition for Mr. Rhodus to voluntarily annex 89 acres from unincorporated Clay County into Mosby. Rhodus would then be able to lease his land to Ideker to expand mining operations.

The great Missouri squirrel standoff

I recently fell down a Tik-Tok rabbit hole – which is how all great legal discoveries begin, right? – and came across a video listing strange Missouri laws. Most of them were things you’d expect from a state that once tried to regulate where you can bathe your mule ... don’t ask. But one in particular stood out to me, not because it was absurd, but because it was personal in a weird way.

Local government and popcorn

Body
Local government and popcorn Now that the local election is over and the final votes have been counted, I find myself unwinding in the only way I know how – by binge-watching reality TV. It’s my guilty pleasure, my stress relief and, strangely enough, a lens through which I’ve begun to view the world around me.

Beyond the ballot

Body
With the local election approaching, a palpable energy is in the air. Yard signs line the streets, conversations at coffee shops often turn to politics and social media timelines are filled with passionate posts. This is democracy in action and regardless of our differing viewpoints on the issues, it’s something worth celebrating.

Harry Potter for life – let’s debate

Body
In a world where discussions frequently descend into heated arguments about politics, social issues or cultural divides, it was a delightful change of pace to engage in a debate that was purely enjoyable and full of passion. This lively exchange was marked by enthusiasm rather than contention, allowing everyone to embrace their love for storytelling without taking offense.

Preserving Missouri’s Transit Legacy

Body
Dear Editor, Missouri is unique in that it has two of the largest and longest-running rural providers in the nation. SMTS and OATS Transit, along with 28 other transit providers, including two large metro systems, can collectively provide transit accessibility in all 87 counties.

Be each other’s villages

Body
When I was pregnant, friends and family shared countless pieces of advice and warnings about the challenges of motherhood – everything from sleepless nights to the struggles of breastfeeding. However, one crucial issue that went unaddressed was the likelihood of dealing with head lice once my child started school.

Dear Editor, In today’s world, we have news in the palm of our hands, whenever and wherever we want it. However, I have realized news that impacts us is more readily found in our local newspapers. Small town newspapers are the community’s backbone and provide much more than a link to an article online or a news clip on social media.
