The Excelsior Springs Senior Center lunch program for senior citizens — one of the largest in the area — is now back in full swing. Area seniors ages 60 and older are served meals and can take part in the activities offered as well.

The Clay County Sheriff’s Department has partnered with local automotive companies to provide free steering wheel locks for select vehicles. Some Kia and Hyundai vehicles sold in the U.S.

The Excelsior Springs Historical Preservation Commission recently presented local homeowner Ron Prewitt with the Historic Preservation Award. Located at 522 Elms Blvd., Prewitt renovated and restored the 110-year-old home he purchased as investment property in 2022.

The artwork of Robert Grace was on display at a recent open house in downtown Excelsior Springs. With over 30 pieces of artwork on display, former Excelsior Springs resident Grace said the inspiration for his work began when a friend demonstrated tips and tricks of the trade.

The MU Agriculture Extension has established an online master gardening class paired with real hands-on experience at Watkins Woolen Mill State Historic Site.

Waterfest, Excelsior Springs’ biggest festival, marks its 40th anniversary with a variety of events, food and fun. The much anticipated event begins today and continues through Saturday.

Excelsior Springs business owner Melynda Casey, 47, of Polo, Mo., is facing a felony charge of abuse or neglect of a child. According to the probable cause statement written by Ray County Sheriff’s Office (RCSO) Detective Celeste Kaiser, Casey stated she had last seen her daughter (MRS) on June 12, just after midnight after arguing with her regarding food being snuck into her room.

As Excelsior Springs Chamber of Commerce Director Brian Rice will attest, perseverance pays off – particularly when it comes to securing a grand marshal for the Waterfest Parade. Sam Webb, now in his second season in pro football with the NFL franchise the Las Vegas Raiders, will be the grand marshal for this year’s parade, scheduled to begin at 9:30 a.m.

Community Center outdoor pool now open The Excelsior Springs Community Center recently hosted the grand opening of the outdoor aquatic facility. Staff of the center, along with city government, project contractors and their families came together for the celebration.
